95 Hard Gas Pedal Problem

Hello everyone, I tried to search for any old threads that contained the problem I'm having but couldn't find one.

The gas pedal on my wife's 95' Isuzu Rodeo became really hard to press. After it is pressed in it will get stuck and the engine will stay accelerating so you have to pull it back with your foot. Does anyone have any ideas on why this could be happening?

Thanks in advance.

Re: 95 Hard Gas Pedal Problem

I'm probably answering my own question here but I forget to mention that I think it is the throttle cable. I couldn't find info on changing it, is it something I should leave to a mechanic or would I be able to change it? Thanks again.

Re: 95 Hard Gas Pedal Problem

Ive never changed one myself but I know they can be tricky sometimes. On my other car my pedal was really hard to press and would stick down. It ended up being the throttle body and it needed to be cleaned up because it had corroded and gotten sticky over the winter.

Re: 95 Hard Gas Pedal Problem

There is a rubber boot that protects the trottle cable (don't know where it is). Over time the rubber can break down and can cause the cable to stick. the easy solution is to just remove the boot since it is just a dust boot.

Re: 95 Hard Gas Pedal Problem

Thanks for the replys fellas, I went ahead and WD-40ed the cable which fixed it up for now. I'll be looking into it some more to see if the cable should be replaced but from checking it looks good and tight.
