1995 mercury tracer wont shift stuck in 2nd gear

I recently bought a 1995 mercury tracer with a 1.9 automatic from a local auction. I got the car home and had to replace the starter. I also had to replace a little round cylinder on top of the trans. Since I have replaced that the car was fine for a few days then it shifts itself into 2nd gear and stays. I can drive and sometimes the car wont shift out of 2nd but somedays its fine.. It throws a code of the electrical problem with the torque converter. Anyone else have this problem I would really like to get the car to drive normal.

P.S. I have noticed that it doesnt take much to get off the subject so can we stay on this problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your transmission isnt really engaging itself. It could be several things wrong. Since you were throwing an electrical code, you should check out your electronics although I am guessing your electrical problem isnt the root cause if your faulty transmission. Try letting your car idle for awhile, then rev it up with your hood popped. Rev it up and down and get it going. That may help. I have found that by toying around most problems are easily solved without getting out the wallet. Good luck.
