Question Car is not accelerating

Car is unable to accelerate. At about 70 mph car begins to lose speed. Pressing on the accelerater (gas pedal) does nothing. The car eventually come to a stand still. 3 x this has happened. Does anyone no what the problem might be. Thank you for your help. (if any) I really appreciate it.

Re: Car is not accelerating

Check your temp gauge. I once blew up a water pump in my '98 and anytime the needle crossed into the red the engine would be unresponsive and stall out after a few seconds.

Hope you find out what's up.

Re: Car is not accelerating

I had a car that would not accelerate, and it turned out to be the cat converter was plugged. But if yours does it sometimes, and not other times, then that wouldn't be the case. Maybe a throtle position sensor?

Re: Car is not accelerating

I once rented a car that wouldn't accelerate, but it turned out I was driving a ford.

Re: Car is not accelerating

Don't hassle with the problem to long by buying new parts. If you replace a couple of new parts and it does not work goes go to a mechanic and have a test done on your car. It will save you in the long run. GOOD LUCK

Thank you tigger 81. its a $70 - 90/hr diagnotic test. Just wanted to make sure no one has had a similar problem before going to the next step. My car did not stall yesterday. Maybe just an isolated incident(s). I doubt it though. I think i will change fuel pump.
