Lookin' for a TC...
Hey GuyZ:
Does anyone know if they make... and who makes a good Hi-Performance Torque Convertor (for an AT for those of you who don't know what a TC is!)? I think mine needs replacing and since I am gonna get my rear-main seal replaced I would like to change that out too. Why not get a Hi-Performance one rather than stock? Jim Wolf and STILLEN don't 'em....

Re: Lookin' for a TC...
i can see you haven't been around here a long time, we have already talked about 1via having an AT. wait, it was just me and 1via in the beginning, now there is quite a few people. sgpracing sell a whole performance AT for $3500, but i don't think you want to spend that much. this is the only thing i found for TC's http://www.martelbrothers.com/custom...03&cat=&page=1

Re: Lookin' for a TC...
Most gearbox reconditioning shops will be able to source a good high-stall torque convertor (im assuming you want high-stall). Its gonna be easier for them to source it than for you to.
Besides, they'll install it and give you a limited warrantee with it too. -Mike |

Thanks for the link, freak. That may be very useful since I have yet to find another Hi-Performance TC. Thanks for the websight PDFFlyer... But that is a lil' over my budget! ($800 for a TC??) Nice products though! Thanks again! Thanks for the tip MikeMan! I will keep that into consideration! BTW I wanna see pix of your Z31/32 hybrid! Sounds awesome! Post pix when done! BTW: What is the difference between low and high stall torque convertors? Plaese explain the concept to me someone! Which would be more ideal?

Re: Lookin' for a TC...
Ok, I've been told that when you sit there with your foot on the brake and WOT the stall is what rpm the engine runs at. If you want to use the car for dragging, you want a high stall converter because it means you can perform a much better launch (engine has more rpm off the line). Its got to do with how powerful your engine is, and the blade design inside the TC. Just call around the local gearbox reco dudes in your area and make a few enquiries. Ask them what sort of a TC you have at the moment (ask them to give you a size, or number or something) so that you can try calling around wreckers asking if they have a high stall TC that will fit. This is going to be alot easier than you think. Imagine how many drag cars are wrecked each year...
Anyway, good luck. I will post pics of the conversion when its done. Just ironing out a few things this morning actually, and I should be ready to turn the key for the first time very soon. -Mike |
