Replace 096 with a 01M trans?

I have a '94 Jetta III GL with a bad 096 auto trans and I've come accross a '96 2.0 engine and trans.
I believe the '96 trans is an 01M.
Can my 096 be replaced with this? If so do I need to replace the computer too?

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanx

They will fit, but are very different. You would have a very difficult time trying to make the electronic part work with your ECM or another ECM work with your fuel system.

Thumbs up

Thanx for the advice. I think I will wait it out.

If I ever get the time I would like to try to rebuild it myself.
I have rebuilt standard transmissions but never attempted an auto.
Are they alot more difficult and do I need to do anything with the ECM after the rebuild and install?

Thanx again.
Scot

The 096 should be easier than the 01M, but I haven't done either. I don't think there is anything special that has to be done after going through the 096.
