Re: Starting a LUSCIOUS Z32 Project Car

the sti is four doors and has awd. awd is nice, but you can't have as much fun as you can with rwd. the sti is just a fast econo-box to me, the 300zx is actually a sports car.

Um...right...well first off I'll just say that I'm tired of people ragging on HICAS when they haven't even driven with it. That being said, I'm moving on.

If you are just getting into racing, best advice: Don't try and race a Z32. We all like to think we can actually race a car and get it to its full potential but the first thing I learned from racing carts is: Unless you are at the track atleast a few weekends a month, you don't know dick. Period. Sorry but its true. Racing is a hard earned skill that must be practiced constantly.

Second: A TT Z is already a match for the STi. May lose some in the corners but it can hold its own. For what you save, the Z could destroy the STi with even just modest upgrades.

Third: You can get a Z up to 500-600+ rwhp for about 15k. Still alot but its alot less then 20K.

Fourth: If you really want to go all out with this, "money is not an option" needs to extend to atleast 40k or better after buying the car, upgrading the crap out of it, whatever body kit you pick (not needed in my mind) and whatever else needs to be done.

Theres probably some more that needs to be on here. But I'm not big on thinking so some one else post.

Re: Starting a LUSCIOUS Z32 Project Car

$20k worth of mods should be able to make a z32 run 11s.
Keep in mind that the STi egine is being stretched to its limit here.. Dont even consider mods to it because you'll just turn it into a bomb. The vg30dett is far more overengineered, so that you can quite easily get some decent power out of it. Besides, the z32 looks sexier.. 8)

Re: Starting a LUSCIOUS Z32 Project Car

Z-Fanatic: I am 23, still young, at least thats what I am told.
I've only raced 4-bangers with my friends on back country roads, I dont have a lot of experience, but I do plan on taking some weekend excursions to California and some other race schools to get the basics. Then its off to the track 2, 3 weekends a month, so I am VERY interested in knowing 'Dick' about racing. And I've always had a passion for the Z cars, i've done lots of reports and I've done a lot of research on them, they're a great car!

I suffer from a lack of patience, I drove a lusciously fast car and wanted to buy it. Honestly, the only thing that stopped me was that there are suppopsed to be Z experts on here, so I think that your opinion should count a little. I've read a shit load of posts, and I have pretty good idea about who on here knows there shit, so your opinions are very valuable. If you say the VG30DETT can beat a stock STI for almost half the price, I'll believe it.

Oh, and as for you Broke as ****, me reading your rants, raves, information and opinions is how I learn about the Z and its possibilities, I respect anything you have to share, so please think all over my post, I dont care, I want to hear your opinion. Seriously

And the money is not an option qoute means that I want the best of the best, period. I dont worry about how to pay, I get by.

I'm not trying to be a poser, a jackass, or some young blood trying to get a sweet car just to earn some respect. I finally am able to afford a NICE car, and I want to make sure its what I want, and as of now, The Z32 built to 600-700 Horsies is exactly what I want. Although an STI still hauls ass, I mean, fastest car I've ever been in, heh!

Re: Starting a LUSCIOUS Z32 Project Car

and I've been finding turbo kits that boost the STI to 500+ rwhp, 1/4 mile in the mid 11's. APR has a kit and I found one on hopupracing.com. Cant remember where I saw the kit claiming the 11 sec 1/4 mile. If I cant prove it I shouldnt bring it up, but I did see it! I swear! Just checking my options out there. Anyone wanna bring me a TT I can drive? I've never been behind the wheel yet.... Is that Bad?

The first thing you are going to have to change is being impaitent. Even with a bottomless credit limit, it takes months if not more to build a car.

There is the second point. Know how much you are going to spend, once you get started you immediately get into "Well, since the engine is out anyway..." and tack on about another 10k in parts. Figure out what you want to do, get everything down to the serial numbers, decide if you really want to drop all this money on a car then start ordering if you think its worth it.

Find some Zs for sale in your area (Spokane is probably pretty devoid of them unfortunately, west of the mountains is better), drive some, remember that you still got to buy the car and go from there.

Re: Starting a LUSCIOUS Z32 Project Car

Yea, Spokane has two (which is where I am, moving to the West side in August though), one NA and one 2+2. I'm looking into them now. Welp, I have family over in Seattle right now and my Uncle goes to the car auctions and buys vehicles with blown engines and some bad body work, fixs them all up (pretty nice muscle cars sometimes) himself and sells the cars for about a 2500-3500 profit.

I was thinking about going with him to try to find a Z with a blown motor and do a TT engine swap (I hear SamHein owns a company who can get good engines) no matter what the model is. The car should run anywhere from 500 to 2000 as I hear. Good idea or just buy a TT?

well for starters, with all do respect, so far this thread has revealed how indecisive you seem. now that may not seem much, since we all tend to get confused by good things. but when you're behind the wheel of a race car, sliding on the third turn in the track, that indecision will get you killed. if you're testing a 660rwhp TT in the track, and you never raced before, chances are you'll wreck it, unless you drive it like your daily commuter, which would be pointless. all sports car require certain skill to drive them. I have more or less a stock Z32 N/A, and I feel it's enough as it as far as my experience goes. If I harnessed its power fully on the track, then I'd consider a step up an option. and of course, each sports car have their style and finesse, so does each driver. so there's too many variables to take account. another words, a suped up Z32 TT perhaps may not be a good idea to "learn racing" in it. For you own good and the car, because frankly, I am tired of seeing so many sweet Z32's being wrecked.

As posted earlier to create such a beast is a time consuming job, at the very least a year in the process most likely. Now I would start with something smaller, obviously. Hit the track in a Miata at some schools, take the Z to a proffesional to show me how to really drive the car. Get some suspension upgrades and rage around. Then drop the big bucks and make it a 660rwhp powerhouse. Now I'm not a reckless driver, and I would take my time to work up to the full potential of this monster. I've driven a 300ZX NA around multiple times, did some unofficial time trials on some closed roads. Fun, but not as fast as I wanted to go, or could go (I think). Mabye I'm a natural racer? We'll see. But I know what I want, and thats a suped up Z. Now how I go about achieving this goal is up in the air. Thanxs fer all the info posted on here, Its helpin out a lot.

Dude go with the Zed... Anyone can go sign papers for a brand new car...

But it takes a real Automotive Aficionado to relize the beauty in the 300ZedX's.

Buy a Zed... And deck it to hell.
