Question mysterious screetching noise help!!!

When I accelerate fast my car makes a loud screetching noise. What could this be? Can someone please help me with this? I just replaced my transmission so I hope its not that. I thought it might be my timing belt or some other belt.

Re: mysterious screetching noise help!!!

I have the same thing with my car. It only does it at 5500-6000 rpm tho. But i'm pretty sure its my timing belt slipping.

Re: mysterious screetching noise help!!!

It might just be a serpentine belt that needs tightening.

Re: mysterious screetching noise help!!!

I'm wondering the same thing, I get a screetching, almost metal on metal noise, almost like you are moving a steel cabinet across a floor and it is screeching. It happens under hard acceleration, usually in 4th, but sometimes in 2nd and 3rd. Thanks

so no one knows how to tell what it is for sure? Will I have to go to a mechanic to get it checked out? How much do timing belts cost with labor usually?

Re: mysterious screetching noise help!!!

timing belts are from 180-200 dollars for the stock belt - an while your at it u might as well change the water pump while ya have half the side apart - cause the water pump can be a pain in the ass to change - so if you havnt the seal changed or the pump might as well do it if u plan on keepin the car - its on the drives side behind the timing belt ..... good luck

Re: mysterious screetching noise help!!!

Hope it's your serpentine belt (fan belt). Go buy some belt dressing, don't like the stuff personally, but if it isolates the prob. spray it on sparingly. If the prob. goes away you should tighten up the belts anyway but comes back latter, don't keep using the dressing, time to install a new belt

so what do they mean by a leaky bov? How can you tell what it really is instead of having to spend alot of money to find out?

Re: mysterious screetching noise help!!!

Bov is a blow off valve, that is probably not where your problem lies. I honestly don't mean to sound like an asshole when i say this (because i already know it's going to sound like that), but i'm going to go ahead and say it. To find out what your problem really is, you either have to:
1.) Check it out yourself.
2.) Give us more information to work with.
3.) Take it somewhere and spend some money to figure it out.

Saying you have a loud screeching noise under hard acceleration isn't going to get you an exact answer. My suggestion is you have your serpentine belts checked, because i had that same problem before.

Re: mysterious screetching noise help!!!

If you don't have turbo's, and you don't! you will not have a Bov. Go to any auto parts or service station and spray on some dressing and then get back to us.
