Key cylinder question

The key cylinder on my 96 Skylard has malfunctioned. It will rotate far enough to activate the instrument panel lights, but not far enough to engage the starter. I removed the cylinder, and the mechanism in the steering column works fine. The key cylinder is binding up somehow.
Since a dealer replacement is 200 plus bucks, Could I use one out of a wrecked Skylark? I am unclear as to how a different cylinder and key will effect the passlock theft detection system. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
