cougar parts for engine swap

i was planning on doing an engine swap on a 1985 6 cylinder convertable. I have a 1988 cougar with a 302 in it and was wondering if i could use parts out of it for the swap?

You can use the motor and trans, and I also believe the rear end. Take note that the motor might not be a H.O motor found in the Mustang.

Hey, I am new to this forum but just wanted to give some info that I have acquired in the 9 years I have owned my 88 cougar. First off, if your 88 Cat is stock then it is not going to be the same as a high output 302. Standard 302 puts out 155hp/275tq where as the mustang 5.0l puts out 225 hp and 300lbs.tq! It is possible to use this motor but not if you want it to be a High output. Now you can still use the same block, pistons, crank, from your Cougars 302, but you will have to use High output heads, Cam, and a few other things to make the H.O. power. You can check out www.coolcats.net This site can explain this swap in much more detail than I can as well as many other mods for you cat. It also gives you instructions on just going midway with the 302 Standard Output to High Output conversion if the H.O. looks to be a bit too much. This is said to produce about 200 HP. I would recommend going with a set of duals if budget permits as the stock cougar exhaust set up is very restricting. Also don't forget the engine bay has to be changed in your 85 to resemble your 88 (Battery, Starter Solonoid must be relocated and maybe a few other things). And lastly, computer/wiring harness will have to be changed from a cougar or mustang, depending on how you go with the swap. Again you can find this info and everything else I left out on this site as well as what parts you will need and what donor cars they can be taken from. I hope this helps out some.
