1996 corolla, camry or maxima?
i am shopping for a car and have narrowed it down to a 1996 corolla, camry, or maxima (all which have around 70k miles, automatic transmission)
my main criteria is reliability, anyone have any opinions/experience with any of these cars and how they compare in terms of reliability? which care will get me the most miles with the least repair work and costs in the long run? the books say corolla and camry with maxima a little behind, but i was interested in soliciting more personal experience opinions. thanks |

Re: 1996 corolla, camry or maxima?
Camry V6 is the one, make sure when you shopping around 70K miles, you have to check if they have changed timing belt(not regular belt/accesories belt), Check the transmission and not milky oil (oil&water together). The reason I pick Camry V6 is because the same engine as Lexus ES300, My brother has one and now is close to 200K miles with no problem.

Re: 1996 corolla, camry or maxima?
If it was me, I would go for a 1997 model year at least. Remember OBDII came out in 1996, and for that entire model year, alot of manufacturers were just linking OBDI stuff to OBDII controllers, resulting in computers not communicating through data ports. Just somehtin to think about.
If it was me, given the 3 choices you posed, you should go for a corolla, better gas milage. Ive had a maxima, its nice, but not worth it for a single guy. |
