Post I have a question about my 95 Neon...

Not too long after I bought this car second hand off my cousin the motor blew. Its a 95 Neon Sport Car with a 2.0L DOHC. Because im such a cheap lil bugger a friend of mine had a Neon that was in a rear end collision and wasnt using the motor which was running fine so I said I would take it. Upon receiving the motor I realized that his motor is only a SC instead of a DOHC. It appears that the mounts are in the same place, however, I have been unable to find any documentation that says whether or not the computer in my Neon will be alright with the SC rather than a DOHC. Both engines are 2.0L. I was just wondering if anyone had any idea if I could trade them out without too much of a problem. I would go ahead and find out for myself except that im currently in college getting my Masters for Business Admin. and IT services and with all the papers due I just cant seem to find the time to do it. So any help you all can offer will be greatly helpful in my decision. Thx.

well im glad to hear that the motor's should be swapable, however, pedros, you brought up the question of rebuilding the DOHC. It was my understanding that rebuilding a motor was more costly than perhaps buying a new one, or using a second hand one as a replacement. I only paid $600 for this car and because im in college with lots and lots of payments every month, I dont really have alot of money to spend to get this car back on the road, even though its needed badly. I was looking to spend no more than the $600 that I originally paid for the car to get it working again, however the local garage that I go to quoted me $1200 for a new motor and gave me no option of rebuilding. It started with an engine knock which sounded very low in the engine to me, it actually blew on the way to bring it to the garage to have it looked at. Perhaps it was because it was low in the motor that the rebuild wasnt an option but I would be interested in hearing if any of you out there think that a rebuild would be cheaper than $1200 or cheaper than having this SOHC put in to replace the DOHC. Thx.
