I didn't bother to read any of the suggestions everyone else wrote, but buy a Tamiya Skyline R34, build it really enthusiatically, paint it Metallic Blue and show us your mediocre results.

J/K, I agree with you. Too many lemmings on this board. Most of the younger ones probably can't read because of the quality education they give us nowadays, and they have no incentive to be creative in this world of live to work, work to live everyday drag we call life.

I hope you consider it flattery when someone "steals" your idea...as long as you did it first, that's all that really matters. I've seen a model built by someone before that made me want to build the same car in the same color, and I did. That said, I do try often to build a model that suits me first, but also is unique enough in color/style/options that it's not a copy of someone else's work.

Cooincidentally, Veyron sent me the following picture asking if it was inspiration for my green NISMO 350Z:

And my Z car:

Turns out the builder of the first model is Dave Weise. Dave is one of my oldest, best friends (unbeknownst to Veyron at the time). He got me back into models over 20 years ago, when we were newbies in design school and sometimes copying other people's work to help learn the craft. He's a Hot Wheels designer now. Neither one of us knew about either one's Z cars until Veyron sent me the picture! All I can say is great minds think alike. Same car, same paint, same rims.
I hadn't thought of it that way; thanks!

i love these threads

all i will say, is that i used to post some times 20 times a day back in 2003, especially during the summer, during that time, almost every one was friendly, was a lot of "original" models being built

but now only a handful of those freindly people are still here, every one else acts like ass holes, and every one makes the same model.

I ve been holding myself in lurk-mode for way too long in this thread now, I feel like I need to speak up...

Look, I don't really like these kinda comments, they almost seem like you're forcing everybody to try and build differently, and different models too..

Me as a matter of fact, for instance, I like the R34 , and will more then prolly decide to build it bayside blue. If it looks cool in MY eyes, why call all the ones that love a certain car in a sertain colour "lemmings", if we were truly lemmings, we definately would not be making models, we would just be buying diecasts that all look the same with no creative ( I mean this both in the planning and the building process mode) input.

I feel like too many of you are just being bitches, you think you're the only ones who have "The good taste" and are "creative".

As a matter of fact, I don't really build models to look good on "the online model gallery (AF ) , but to look good in my own cabinet... If I decide to make a bayside blue Nismo, with X type of rims because I thought it looked good on AF for my own collection, why should't I ?

Just do your thing!

Olivier

PS I wanna make a Enzo in rosso corsa too, guess I m a real copycat now

Very good example of building for your self.

There are so many points and views in this thread its crazy. I will admit that I am one that prefers the creativity, but a good model is a good model whether its box stock, or extremely modified.
