91 LX parking gear release
The push button release to get the transmission out of park on the shifter on my 91 LX won’t release the shifter. Took the console apart and if you push on the white plastic thing the cable attaches to it’ll pop out. If you take the cable off it’ll work too but then you don’t have any protection from getting the transmission out of park without stepping on the brake or having the key on. Seems the cable or something associated with it might be the problem but I can’t find anything in my Haynes about it. Anybody seen this or know what to do to make it work right again?
Thanks. |

Re: 91 LX parking gear release
Buy an aftermarket shifter. It will 1) fix your problem, 2) improve your shifts slightly, 3) prevent miss-shifts. Thats just a start.

I had a similar problem a while back. I took the T handle off and just pushed the button manually for a while.
