Replace 94 civic cx exhaust
I have a 94 civic cx, the only thing I did was replace the cx engine with a rebuilt dx engine (I was going for cheap, not performance). I used all the cx manifolds, but now the exhaust system is rusting away and holes temporarily patched using stainless shim stock and hose clamps. I know it's sad...
My question is, with the funny placement of the cat, what can I do to replace the whole system? Can I use a header and a cheap aftermarket cat, and then use some cat-back system? And what would I be looking at spending for something like this? I don't really care how it looks or how it performs, just as long as it doesn't sound crappy. Exhaust places around here want $150 just to replace the middle pipe, and that doesn't even address the problem of the pipe coming out of the cat that's already thin and weak from rust. |

Re: Replace 94 civic cx exhaust
i suggest running a header, or use the dx manifold and address the cat issue with the full exhaust form a dx,etc.

ACTUALLY you're in LUCK! I have a 97 DX, and the other day I took it in for the 105K service. I knew I had a crack in the manifold, but told the dealer mechanic not to touch it as I was planning on a header, well he calls me an hour later to let me know that the piece is covered under a honda warrantee, aparently, because of the awkward position of the manifold and cat, Honda will replace it, one time for free. aparently the two are welded together making it a more costly than necessary fix, so when it needs it, they'll fix it, with 2 pieces, for free.
now, I think I saw 5th gens, CX,DX,VX, HX on the list of cars, but I can't remember with certainty. I would check your dealer, maybe yours qualifies - if so, hey, freebe. course, cheap replacement system and shipping is nice too.

I've been looking at prices and stuff, but for the time being, I used some creative to fix this temporarily. I just used a section of pipe a bit smaller, and two clamps, and now it just sounds like there is a small leak, not like a big dirt bike.
Thanks for your input. |

Of course you know you should really have it repaired correctly. I would sugest (if you want to go to a chain) going to a Mieneke er something, some place that doesn't pay on commission - that way they only replace the pipe that needs it and not a Midas touch "whole new exhaust sestem" for a small hole in the muffler - con artists.
a few months ago I had the straight pipe (the one that runs the length of the car) replaced at a firestone garage, cost me about $270 out the door, pricy, but new, stainless, no leaks, and guranteed for x amount of miles. I feel ya on the cash crunch, but in my experience it's best to bite your lip and get it fixed before something else can happen or you pass a cop with a hard on (no offense to any cops out there).

I still plan on doing it right, I just want to get another paycheck, until I spend some money.
