97 Starter How To?

97 SOHC / AC / Automatic / High Light Made in Mexico
I need to replace my kid's Neon's starter. What do I need to remove to get to the studs? Thanks for any help. It has been many years since I had to lay on the driveway under a car.

A Haynes repair manual is an awesome thing to have. They give pretty clear step by step instructions, most of the time with illustrations.

Thank you,
Got the Haynes manual. Put the car on stands and took a look. " Remove front motor mount and rotate engine........" Looked a little further on what I would be up against and dropped the car back off the stands. Odds are I this job is more than what I and my tools can do. I'll call my mechanic.

I suggest you take it to a mechanic. Because my dad has a shop with a lift and it still took us a while to change the starter on my 95 neon.
You have to remove the battery, battery box. Unbolt engine mounts rotate engine. It is a pain. Dont do it in the driveway.

Re: 97 Starter How To?

Yea, unfortunatly alot of the stuff with these cars are a pain in the ass. That's what we get for having a small car with not much space in the engine compartment for anything. They just had to kinda shove everything in there any way it would fit....... Gotta love it.

hmmmm

for a non magnum neon its not difficult at all to swap starters. pretty much nothing more than taking out battery and tray removing two bolts and disconnecting the starter wires (make sure you rewire it correctly..could end up blowing starter) first time i did it..didnt even have to take out the front motor mount. even if you have to take out the FMM it aint that difficult. i could do it in 'bout 20 mins if i had to do it again.
