Removing black plastic protective siding on 99 blazer

Hi there,
Just got a 99 4 door blazer and am ecstatic to have found this site. First thing i wanna do is get rid of the protective siding running down the lower portion of both sides of the car. I have been told to use a heat a gun and thats about all the instruction ive received. A more complete list of instruction would be greatly appreciated and what toold to use to "scrape" off the adhesive. Also, will there be holes under that need to be filled. Thanks a lot. All input appreciated.

I would leave it on for risk that you may mess it up.
