vacuum leak in 97 ranger
i have an obi11 diagnostic tool, and i got a vacuum leak error when my check engine light came on...
i've tried tightening a few things up here and there, but the code is persistent. how should i go about to find the leak without taking it in to the shop? --i'm looking for a SAFE method.. i've been hearing things about propane and such that i'm not willing to try... |

Re: vacuum leak in 97 ranger
I've heard that you can take a long hose and use it as a "Stethoscope" and run one end along the intake manifolds and listen for a hissing sound.
I've heard of using propane too. The propane gas is supposed to change the RPM of the motor when sucked into the leak. Think I read that in a 4X4 Mag. Anyhow, good luck. |

You can spray the hoses with carb cleaner Gumout & it will also change rpms. Check the hoses going to the caron canister up front under battery. I just found a leak there that I looked for a long time. Don't forget to unplug battery for a bit to clear computer. Good Luck!
