RWD impulse

im having trouble finding specs that all agree. i found some taht say there are impulses with DOHC:

"1988-1989 Isuzu Impulses are all RWD, 4 wheel disc brake, some are turbo intercooler 1.9L SOHC engined, some are 1.9L DOHC nonturbo engined, some are 2.3L DOHC nonturbo engined. All have Recaro designed front buckets and Lotus suspension design. Turbo models have limited slip rear differentials. Turbo engines rated at 140 HP, nonturbo 1.9 rated at 90 HP, nonturbo 2.3 rated at 110 HP."

and some that say they are all SOHC:

I would love for it to be DOHC, thanks for clearing it up

hello They made 3 different impulses from 80-89 the first being a 1.6Lsohc.In 85 they made a turbo version 2.0Lsohc.In 1988-89 they made a 2.3Lsohc

1.9L 90hp n/a
2.0L 140hp turbo
2.3L 110hp n/a

Also in 1987 they made a rs version with 145hp.It did have the lotus tunning but no badges.

yea all impulses made before 1990 are rwd!

so there are no dohc rwd? do u know if swaps work with the rwd setup?

There was only one dohc motor the 1.9L in japan and australia.The best motor swap would be a 2.6L from a trooper it fits right in.with a compressor swap from a t-bird turbo you can get over 300hp on stock internals.go to isuzone.net everything you want to know is there.When you sign up put me as a refferer.Thanks

All I can say is in 1995 I picked up an '88 with an SOHC 2.3L and a rebuilt 5 speed. I quickly fell in love with it. I've been driving it for 9 years and have put over 100k miles on it. (It had 100k when I bought it.) I recently replaced the head and my mechanic (my son) suggested a performance cam for it. We have yet to find one.
I am also interested in adding a Turbo, or other power enhancing mods to go with the nice handling. (Nice in my opinion at least.)
