VTEC No MORE!!! HeLp: (this post)

I have a 93 prelude engine (H22a1) and My check engine light comes on at arround 5800 RPM (VTEC engagement) the code says 22= Vtec oil pressure switch.. ok so i replace it, reset the code and i can herar a noise at the right rpm but still no VTEC and the light comes on again with the same code AAAAHH i cant afford to have a dealer rip me off for diagnosis and mabey this will help another guy too hehe

how is the oil level in your car? if its trying to engage it, but cant, more often that not its because it doesnt have enough oil pressure to do it.

yeah check or change your oil, the most common problem for VTEC not workin is low oil levels, without oil VTEC wouldnt work.

remove solenoid.

replace screen filter.

install new gasket.

reinstall solenoid.

if that dont fix it after the oil level being good and the sensor swapped, then you're up shit creek without a paddle.

HEy man I am having the same problem but my CEL is always on and I have not read the codes yet, but the CEL is always on because My O2 censor is not hooked up...so I thought that there was no problem until I was not getting vtec anymore and then I got pissed, but I do not have the time to take it to the shop and I am afraid to see how much it is going to cost...is the vtec solinoid expensive....what should I check I have been without vtec for like 3 months now....but every once in a while it will work....like when it is raining outside...funny huh? help me out please....need vtec!

hi well i tried what you suggested, the screen was clean so i did not replace it BUT the C.E.L doesnt come on anymore !! yay for that BUT i do not notice the VTEC coming on like i did b4 but i dont get any more codes so i duno ...i still need to drain some oil but weather prevents that anytime soon.. i need to get a new top speed run and see if its affected

as for the other guy with the problem yer C.E.L. should flash you 2 codes one for 02 sensor and one for the other

Is there anyway to test the solonoid with out driving it ?? liek under the hood? or other things to test for??
thanx again!!
