New Engine. 4 cyl to a 6 cyl. ???

I have a 4cyl. 97 wrangler and i eventually want to put a 6cyl. in it. Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost and what other parts i would have to replace in addition to the engine? Is this even a smart thing to do, and is it cost effective?

I did some research into that same subject a couple years ago. Besides the cost of the engine, you'll need to change the wiring harness as well; if a manual trans, the clutch is different. If automatic, not sure but the bell housing and the torque converter may be different.

Basically, the folks I talked to were of the opinion that although the 2.5 doesn't make alot of power, I was better off keeping it (it's pretty much bulletproof) than making the switch. One guy knew someone that had changed over, and that guy had alot of little problems that continued on down the road.

Not saying don't do it, but that's my 2cents. I never changed mine, just gave it alot of gas.

Re: New Engine. 4 cyl to a 6 cyl. ???

Whups, didn't put any prices in. Engine? $2000-$2500 new, junkyard price all depends. Clutch workings 3-500 depending on where you get it. Wiring harness I haven't checked into; junkyard would likely be a good place to find it. You may be able to find the engine, wiring, clutch, etc as a one time pre-assembled purchase at a junkyard...and be able to bolt it in. Good luck....
