Re: Ligit LS/Vtec Question

if u dont have a vtec ecu then vtec isnt gonna kick in;...i think if u get a controller it might work but im not sure...now i ran a vtec motor with a non vtec ecu and the car ran decent but its not gonna hit the potential it has and i dont think thats what u want

Where could I get a vtec controller and would it have the same potential as a vtec ecu. Would the 92-93 gsr ecu work in my 91, again I'm not sure if the 92-93 gsr has an obd0 or obd1 set up.

92-93 are OBD1.

Re: Ligit LS/Vtec Question

All you have to do is hook up the VTEC selenoid to a power source. I hooked it to me high beams. Anytime I need to activate the VTEC I just hit my high beams and BAM...there you go VTEC engagement manually.

Re: Ligit LS/Vtec Question

So you can turn on the vtec manually with your lights? Does it kick in when you turn it on or will it still wait until the designated RPMs?

there are a couple factors for vtec to engage, like the vtec as to be activated electronically, also it must be at the right oil pressure for vtec to activate.

so if you activate it early, it wont engage till you hit that oil pressure

Re: Ligit LS/Vtec Question

let me start off by saying get rid of the auto and get a manual. otherwise dont even bother doing that to an auto because an auto tranny is for cruising not for racing.

to get the vtec to turn on u dont need a vtec ecu, as its been mentioned already. but to get the motors full power out of it you have to remove the rev limiter so you can rev it to 8k. but if you have an auto the tranny will shift probably before 6500 because the tranny is made for a nonvtec integra. i dont know whether its the torque converter that shifts the tranny or the ecu. i know that usdm vtec integras never came with auto. but some jdm vtec integras came with auto although they are extremely rare.

as for the setup, i love it. ive torn mine apart 2 times. 1st time was because when i first got it the block was completely stock. so i threw some forged pistons in there and some eagle h beam rods. then i put a type r oil pump with a vtec water pump. then i got the main caps from a gsr. gsr oil pan and the gsr oil pickup. then i got a new head gasket and put the motor together. at the time i had a 94 integra and i dropped the motor in there. what i didnt know was that the head had 7 bent valves. so when u were driving the car and u floored the gas it would just bug out and just make a weird noise while the rmps went down. in low rpms the power was greater than a stock gsr even without flooring the gas. i smoked 2 ls integras revving the motor to 6k without flooring the gas. we went from 40 to 100 and i still smoked them with out flooring the gas pedal. then i tore it apart and fixed the head and just dropped it in my hatch but havent started it yet because i did something wrong with the wiring and i get no spark.

as for reliability, if you dont rev the motor past 8500rpms the motor will last almost as long as any other honda motor.

I have done an LS/VTEC swap on my 90 Integra, and love it. Its much more powerful then the standard B18B/A. I also changed some internals though cause I wanted to hit higher RPM's. I got some CTR cams (more power), Ferrea Valves, and Type R springs, and Skunk2 cam gears. I got a B16 ECU too cause i didn't wanna screw with the VTEC controller. I have had it now for about 700 miles and im in love.

Re: Ligit LS/Vtec Question

you could use a vtec controler or run your vtec with a monstor tach by useing the shift light and a relay. if your trying to achieve a higher redline then you can get your ecu chipped. as for a 91 vtec auto ecu that would be verry hard to find because it would have to be JDM or possably a 93 gsr auto ecu but that will be even harder to find
