engine blowing up question

I drive a 1999 sohc vtec ex civic and it only has 50k miles on it and iw as racing a car just for fun down route 79 in pa and well the engine blew i was wondering what could of caused this i shifted ever gear at 6600 rpms oil got changed every 3-4 months. what happed was 2 rods blew threw the side of the block. only after maket part i had was a cold air intake from aem and exhaust custom built. I planned on replacing it with a jdm sir2 motor when i get back from basic and school from the air force in october and i leave this monday so not having a car isnt really a problem, i was just wondering what could of caused this. well, if you redlined every gear for all those 50k miles of course it's going to break.

i think your engine blew cuz you were street racing.

i've always street raced a couple times a month, and redline on the ex is 7200 so i shifted under redline and the peak power is made at 6500 rpms i think just up till a month ago i started shifting at 6500rpms around there before that i shifted at 5500rpms.

also i only had the car for 20,000 miles i bought it with about 30k on it and drove it safely about 4500-5500 rpms daily.

since you have alot of downtime i recommend swapping for a b18c you can rev the hell out of that if you like. much less of a chance of it breaking. plus it will give you the power that is obvious that you desire

Sounsd like you were high up in the rpms in one gear (im guessing 4th?) Maybe third, and when you shifted you got a bit of a slingshot effect and it probably went dry trying to crank into the next gear so fast that it just crashed you. The red line is there for a for a reason.

The Higher the RPMS = More Stress on the Engine

You can pretty much solve the rest.

You probably spun a rod to crank bearing from the high revs. It is pretty un common to see a bearing spun that soon in the engine life.

maybe you lofted the valves, too much fuel got in and wasnt burned right away, and all at once too much was ignited, causing blowback

the civic sohc engines are too bad for racing purposes, I also blewed a D16Y5, now I have a B16A2 and I rev it to 7,800-8,000rpm every day, and nothing is happened yet...hehe.
