Angry 55 chevy with 700r4

Ok I have a restored 55 chevy stepside with a 350 and 700r4. The trany was bought used but suposed to be good.I installed the lockup kit to make it work with the carberator.When I drive it it shifts from first to second fine but it wont shift to drive or overdrive, Enen when I manuel shift it.I know nothing about trannys do you think I could have installed the lockup kit wrong or does this have anything to do with it at all?
Also does anyone know the stall of a stock 700r4 converter think I need a little higher stall because when you put it in gear it tries to take off.

Re: 55 chevy with 700r4

ok my fist question....
when you say the lockup, what are you talking about? cuz that has nothing to do with the carb. did you acutaly install the torque converter lockup control or are you talking about the TV system. the TV system is what has to do with the carb, and from the sounds of it you dont know much about 700's and the systems and requierments to make them work properly.
do you have to TV cable hooked up?
(not a detent cable like 350's and 400's but a TV cable for a 700r4 or 2004r)
right now my best guess would be you didnt install a TV cable at all or corectly and now your tranny is shot.

Re: 55 chevy with 700r4

Im with him, but if that doesnt work, Maybe you bought a 700r4 E, the electronic version of the tranny, that could be why it doesnt shift. Above that, GET A DAMN TURBO 350, OVERDRIVE DOESNT BELONG IN OLD VEHICLES

if what doesnt work?
the electric version of the 7004r is called the 4L60E, its not called the 700r4E.
as for overdrives not belonging in old vehicles... why is that? im curiouse to here your reasoning because i am one of the manny people who would disagree with you.

Re: 55 chevy with 700r4

if i wanted to be a smartass i would have said... WTF are you talking about you moron. AND I DIDN'T. i asked if what doesnt work? cuz i was curiouse as to what you were talking about cuz no one said to try anything that he hadnt tryed already.
and now why is the 700 a shitty tranny? besides you never said the 700 only, you said overdrives.
oh and i did look up the 7004r E.. why dont you take a look at this.
7. 700R4E

General data;

This is an "electrically" controlled version of the 700R4. See the 4L60E listed below.

return to directory

heres the link to where i got that... http://www.chevelles.com/techref/tecref22.html#700R4E
like i said its called the 4l60E cuz no one refers to it as the 700r4 E.
now dont act like a total fucking prick. i didnt not say anything mean to you i simple asked questions. so watch your mouth.

oh and old cars are for looking at not show... well those of us who can work on them and make them run good would probably disagree with you yet again. but i guess your intitled to your opinion.
