97 k1500 5.7 heater core replacement

Heater core went out yesterday. My buddy said I need to take out the entire dash and also mess with the a/c... does anyone know if this is true? I havent looked at it in the light yet but maybe i can sneek it out the bottom of the dash if I take some things out? Any ideas?

Did you find anything out about heater core? Mine just went out. I have a '93.

On a '94 C/K, you don't have to pull the dash, but the Chilton's manual says you do have to loosen parts of the dash and move them out of the way a little. Suggest that you go by an auto parts store and browse a shop manual covering your year vehicle. Or better yet, buy it for this and future repairs. Personally I don't like my Chilton's manual because the paper it is printed on is about the quality of newsprint. At least Haynes uses decent paper. Or, the best choice is a factory manual from www.helminc.com

[Thank you!! I actually ended up HAVING to fix it the other day. Just started playing around with it and found out that I have an "access panel" which eliminated the need to take out the glove box, etc. Just dropped the panel, then to the hoses in the engine compartment. My Hayne's told me basically I had to take the entire dash apart! Sure glad I didn't! I appreciate the help. Thank you for the reply, and for the link to helminc.com ~ I can definitely use it for future repairs. Hate having to pay someone else if I can do it myself!!!
