240z vs 280z/x

I can't believe the lack of information as far as the differences between the 240 and 280, either no one cares, or there isn't much seperating them...
I love the original 240's, the granpappy of my 86 300 and the Z legend.
Anyway, before i go off and trade my 300 for a 240, i want to consider the mix-breed 280z/x. What are the differences, asside from facelift and motor? I've read that the brakes are different, and I'm assuming that the 240 is a 2.4 while the 280 is a 2.8, are there alot of little things that really seperate them, or is the motor and facelift pretty much it.
Is the 280 heavier/bigger? It looks longer...

Is the 280 noticeably faster with that 2.8?
If so, are the motors easily swapable?
Is one motor have a better temperment and reputation than the other?
Does the 240 have all kinds of crazy weakspots that were fixed in the 280?
Whats the defference between z and zx model 280's?
Was there ever a 240zx?
Was the 240z available with T-Tops?

I drive an 86 300zx, and i consider it to be tempermental. Comming from an mk1 MR2, this motor seems way overcomplicated, I cant find anybody to even diagnose it for less than 100 bucks. I'm hoping to simplify with an older car. Do you think the 240z is a means to that end, do you think they are better tempered than the 3.0 v6?
And finally, as an owner of a 240z, what would you warn me most about them, whats their achilles heel?

Thanks in advance

Re: 240z vs 280z/x

Go to a real Z forum like Zcar.com... they can help you out... I can tell you but I've cover the difference too many times already. and the info. should be all over the net.

-but the basic is that 280zx is heavier than a 240Z.
-All the engines from 70-83 are all interchangeable.
-I wouldn't say 280zx is faster than 240z. 280zx has more hp. but also crap loads of more weight.
-240z-280zx is a whole lot easier to work on. It has crap loads of room compared to the 300zx.
- and no there are no such thing as 240zx, at least not form the factory.

when looking for a Z. It's more important to find a 240z with a good body, meaning no rust, than finding one that's running. Body parts are hard to come by. And they usually cost you an arm and a leg. Engine parts.. you can always go to junk yard and pull later 280zx parts. I hope that helps.

Sorry for all the bad grammer. It's not that I can't type correctly. It's just I'm too lazy.
