idle drops when a/c on and almost stalls car

1996 accord ex, 4 cylinder v-tec. whenever i turn a/c on the idle drops to almost 0 and the car nearly stalls when stopped. please help? if i turn a/c off the idle returns to normal. is this an a/c compressor problem?

Have compressor looked over, and also check that the idle speed is set correctly. I have a 91 ex just with the 2.2 and the idle will increase when ac kicks on. Maybe some type of relay not communicating properly. Good luck.

It's called the idle-air control, pull out your Haynes manual (which you should have) and look it up. You can adjust it by yourself and is quick and painless. It pretty much tells your engine how much to raise RPM when the AC is on because of extra drag on the engine. I had the same problem on my '90. Hope that helps.
