5W-20 Oil for 89 Accord?

I just got back from taking my 89 accord for a tuneup [still running good at 167K].

The Accord service dept. put 5W-20 oil in the engine. While I know that they specify this for newer engines, I am not sure how the older engine will take it the lighter oil - I am in South Florida, so in for a hot summer as usual.

I usually use 10W-30 in the car for the extra weight / protection for higher temp range. Is there a big difference in the protection levels at temps in the 75 - 102 deg F range?

Any feedback would be appreciated, should I change the oil to 10W-30? Will do it myself this time.

Yes factory does reccomend 10W30 for that motor. As for the 5w20 it won't be an issue if your religous about your oil changes, High mileage over 100K and a 20W50 would be better.

My Austin dealership did this to me once. It was a mistake and they changed it back to 5w30. New Hondas use the 20. I was told that the 20 would not have a negative impact, only drove it 5 miles before I noticed the sticker with the 20 on it. I want the 30 for Texas temps.
