Fuel Pump?
I have an 88 300ZX Turbo. I have been stripping the car down for weight reduction and to do the body work. I have been chiseling and stripping off the sound insulation and doing the body work too and sometimes when I am banging on something with a hammer the car makes a sound in the rear. I think it is the fuel Pump Comming on. The noise does not continue more then 2 or 3 seconds.
Also I temporarily disconnected my electric fan to hear things better. I cannot hear the fuel pump come on when I turn the key and wait for a moment before starting like I can with almost any car.. I usually wait for a moment to let the fuel hit the engine. Is this normal for it not to come on or not make noise? Since I have stripped the car she wont start. Could that be due to this??? Any imput is appreciated, thanks in advance

Re: Fuel Pump?
I'd say thats what it is; you should be able to hear the fuel pump come on for a few seconds when you turn the key.
Some people may disagree with me, but you may want to get under the back with a RUBBER mallet and give a few sturdy taps to around where the fuel pump is. Occasionally, my fuel pump would seize (especially after not being used in some time), and a few taps would coax it back into working again. |

I am use to old cars,, this is my first Import I am headin out side to work on her again soon,, odds are I can find it unless its hidden out of sight

Re: Fuel Pump?
im not sure with the '88, but chances are its in the fuel tank. just check to see where the fuel lines come out of, and give that area a few taps.
