89 camry conks out during accerlation

I have an 89 camry that stalls or coughs when I accelarate. Just started about 2 weeks, and now everytime I'm in gears 1-3 and accel, it either stalls or coughs like an emphasema patient. used to run like a champ. I think it might be getting too much air, or something. Stopping at a light makes for stress now as I have to rev higher to make sure it does not die out. I heard that there might be a crack in air intake valves for these models. ANyone have an idea???

I'm not really sure that it might be something to do with the intake valves, although what repairs or regular maintenance have you performed on the car within the last six months? This will better help figure out the problem. Also, what about engine? I4 or V6?

I just do the standard maintenance - oil, plugs, air filter, flush radiator. Should I be concerned about O2 sensors etc? I've never really done anything else. Perhaps I am only hitting the easy things.

You only have to worry about O2 sensors when the "check engine" light has came on, and the scan of the system has shown the error code for the according O2 sensor. You should probably check for vaccum leaks, bad gasket seals, and also check the fuel system. I think it's a great possibility that it's something fuel related, so I think you should check the pump, injectors, etc.
