Unhappy throttle sensor

I have a 1993 Bronco that has recently plagued me with the check engine light glaring ominously at me from the depths of my instrument panel. I took it to my local mechanic who ran it through his computer and who then told me I had a faulty throttle sensor.

Keep in mind that I don't drive the Bronco much anymore (it sucks up to much gas and at almost $2 a gallon....I just can't afford to feed the beast!). The last time I drove her, the check engine light came on, she shifted hard from first to second and lost power when accelerating.

My question is this: I really don't want to spend the $200 to get this sensor replaced but will if I have to. Can anyone tell me if this is a job that can be done myself? If so...where would I find the throttle sensor?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance....
Toni

Re: throttle sensor

yeah, you can do it yourself. The sensor i up on the passenger side of the throttle body. Might want to get a chiltons manual, it does sound like whats wrong.

throttle sensor

I actually ended up taking my Bronco to the shop and they fixed it. It was the throttle sensor.

And thanks to all for the help....unfortunately (?? or maybe not...) I no longer have the Bronco. I have traded it in on a 2004 Ford F150 STX Heritage Edition extended cab.

thanks again..

Re: throttle sensor

Sounds like a nice truck. Is it true that the new F150s don't have dipsticks to check your trans oil???

Re: throttle sensor

Yep, supposedly they're sealed & non-serviceable so you can't check or change the fluid. Once they go out, you need a new trans...No preventative maintenance whatsoever...Ain't life grand?

Re: Re: throttle sensor

[I looked in my owners manual about the transmission being sealed...not true. It gives very detailed instructions on checking levels etc...
