Re: Which integra?
THE "R",
THE "GS-R" THEN THE LS, RS, AND GS. THE MAIN DIFFERANCE IS THE FIRST TWO HAVE VTEC AND THE OTHERS DON'T. THE TYPE R IS THE FASTEST. AROUND 195 HP.............fISH |

Re: Which integra?
It all depends on what you want to do. If you want to go all motor, or just have a car that's fast without any modifications, the type r is the best. Be warned, though, they're expensive as hell.
If you want to go forced induction, the type r is not the best, owing to its high c/r. Both the gs-r and the non-vtecs (rs/ls/gs/se) are better for turbo. The non-vtecs can deal with more boost due to their 9.5 c/r. If you want to go high boost on stock internals, or you want to build a strong turbo motor, the non-vtecs are best. You can also add vtec to them with a gs-r or b16 head. Search for "ls/vtec" for more info. If you want good performance out of the box with decent all motor capability and good f/i choices, go with the gs-r. It can't handle as much boost stock as the non-vtecs, but it's still a very viable option. If you want to go with built internals, gs-r's are increadible. If you want to go all motor, they aren't as good as the type r, but they're about half the price. Summary: high boost on stock internals- non-vtec. all motor: type r (expensive), gs-r (cheaper). lower boost: gs-r or non-vtec. Built f/i: gs-r.

Re: Which integra?
You know, the speed difference between the type R and the GSR is not really that much. Especially if you not an experienced driver. I even beat a type R (stock) on the track in my civic si (stock) once. Not by much though.
I guess my point is that throwing money at it might not be the best thing. |

Re: Which integra?
you're contradicting yourself. you're saying that an experienced driver can make his car perform better than an unexperienced driver. but maybe the type r driver you raced was unexperienced. because a type r IS faster than a gsr. a type r is almost a gsr with more aggressive internals. and of course a lighter body. why wouldn't it be faster?

Re: Which integra?
To clear that little bit up, type r's (well driven) usually see about 14.7, whereas gs-r's see 15.4 or so.

Re: Which integra?
Sorry I was unclear. I would not argue that a type R is not faster in ideal conditions, especially dragging. What I mean is that on a track, where braking and weight managment can play as much a part as horsepower, you could save yourself a lot of money by buying a slightly lesser integra and still have comperable performance.

Re: Which integra?
The R and GSR are virtually the same cars. R's tranny gear ratio is shorter, and it's a little lighter... but as for the engine it self the only difference is the pistons...
b18c (gsr): 1.8 liter dohc vtec, p72 cast code, 170/180hp, 3.433 crank, 3.189 bore (94-up integra USDM-170hp 10:1 cr, jdm 180hp 10.6:1cr) b18c (ITR): 1.8 liter dohc vtec, p72 block/pr3 head, 195hp, 3.433 crank, 3.189 bore 10.6:1 cr USDM, 11:1 cr JDM (97,98,00,01 integras) I'd jus buy a GSR and get type R pistons.. you'll put out about the same power more or less. Why spend so much money for the R? When people are going to rob it anyway.... the 5 lug will give it away even if you take the sticker off and change the wheels.

Re: Which integra?
the head and cams are diff.the whole valve train is diffrent.the type r head is almost identycal to a b16 head.they wouldnt call it a type-r if it was the same as a gsr.the tranny has a lsd.cars get stolen, some more than others.buy a momo removable steering wheel.a good alarm and park it in your garage that solves everything.

Re: Which integra?
buying a type R isn't always about the performance... it can be about the prestige and class.. if it wasn't for that.. why would someone buy a ferrari or some rediculously overpriced car like that when they can buy a used civic for $5 grand and put 25 grand into it and have a car that's just as fast?
it's all about class my friend

Re: Which integra?
The Type R isn't just an Integra with more horsepower, the entire chassis was built up sturdier than the other ones. I can't believe nobody here knew that.. If you put two drivers with equal skills in an itr and gsr, the itr will win at the strip and around the cones. Back in the day they had a Super Street comparison between one and a WRX and they handled equally. That's how well-designed they are.

Re: Which integra?
lol.....thats funny....whoever was driving that Type-R should be shot for letting a SI beat him. Ill admit that a GSR can "keep up" with a Type-R in the same way that a SS Camaro can "keep up" with a Z06 Vette. I was getting 14.5's out of my R and I weighed like 220 lb at the time. My track is slightly below sea level so that helps and I am one hell of a driver (or very abusive...whatever you want to call it). I autocrossed my R before and like Ricochet said above...the ITR will win at the strip and around the cones. I remember there was like a 2-3 second difference between the R's that were there that day that were stock and GSR's setup similary. Having owned both I wish I had the engine I got now in my R, The R does nto come with a sunroof for extra stiffness, the different suspension, 3 Strut bars, and tires that on the window sticker claim to only last 10-12000 miles, The R is a sure winner all the way around.
