If you were to rebuild the trans yourself, 1 gear set will cost approx. $200.00 for parts only. If you have the trans all apart it's very wise to replace every bad part. By the time your done you'll easily spend $400.00 on parts alone & that's if you do it yourself. Have some one else do it, Add labor + parts mark-up.

ok first off, where can I get an intermediate shaft? second, what axles do u use? third, do u gotta change ur hubs? cuz i have a DOHC ZC tranny sitting in my garage for sale cuz my axels were too small to fit in the housing, if this isnt outragously expensive i might trade em

#2 90-93 integra left axle, 1985 Honda Accord SE-i 5spd Right axle. (you could use two integra axles but the accord one is half an inch longer and fits a tad bit better)
#3 You will only need new hubs if your old tranny was the 4-speed. If thats the case, get yourself a pair of either DX or Si hubs.

what do u think about buying axels from a wrecking yard? is it worth it?? cuz i know theres a car up there with a DOHC ZC so maybe i can just snatch the axels off that

Re: si tranny just went kaput

I didn't get a JDM tranny. The company just claims to get the best engines and transmissions available. I'm sure they wouldn't sell me the wrong part. Anyway, they don't sell "performance engines" just the stock ones. I was merely quoting their guarantees and all. And they basically remanufacture them so they work. Also, 6 month/unlimited miles warranty is awesome.

1PhatCX good luck!!!!

Re: si tranny just went kaput

Oh yeah... I had the bearing and seals replaced on old tranny prior to my clutch install to insure the clutch wouldn't get messed up. That kit only cost like $138 and the labor was an extra couple hundred. I would never rebuild the gearing in a tranny cuz I know it's a pain in the ass and expensive too. Also, the trannies in the salvage yards around here are outrageously priced with no guarantee pulled from wrecked cars. One place wanted $600 for a used si tranny. I said, "whatever, man" and hung up and they're supposed to be the best yard around. If I had a domestic POS it would cost a lot less. Damn rednecks... sheesh...

Re: Re: si tranny just went kaput

When I worked for Honda we used japan engines & still use them at the shop now. never a problem although we have found a cheaper JDM/USDM private source.

Re: si tranny just went kaput

i was gonna recomend the junkyard but then remembered all the trouble i had with them, $700 for an engine with over 100k miles. $35 for a corner light or one side of a taillight. I have a question though, how do you guys mess up your engines and transmissions so badly. I torture my car sometimes and never have a problem, except a bad axle but that was from wear.

Re: Re: si tranny just went kaput

Over revving & down shifting will cause damage over time. I always say if you drive it like a race car be prepared to fix & maintain it like one.

I know why my trans went bad, 2nd gear & input shaft bearing. 35 laps at blackhawk farms using no clutch for up & downshifts, trans had 120K miles at the time.

You should have installed the trans yourself, it's actually very easy on our 4g civics.

Re: si tranny just went kaput

My old tranny had 182k miles on it and I rally and drift a little so I don't get in trouble for playing on actual streets where other people are. My new tranny shifts sweet and runs great! Hey, for $200 and I didn't even have to touch it, that's pretty damn nice in my book. Besides, I don't have a garage and I have to pretty much make reservations to use my buddies folks' garage. I gotta move...
