Ok, i just recently bought a used 98 Mitsubishi Galant. A friend of mine left the door open a crack the other night and killed my battery. She got the battery recharged to find out that the stereo has a theft system on it and i dont have the codes. We tried to enter generic codes such as 1234 which of course did not work. My stereo now says OFF on it and wont work at all. I called a local mitsubishi dealer and asked what i needed to do and he said bring it in and they will take the stereo out and get the serial # for me so they can find the code. Well the closest dealer is 2 hours from where i live, and i would really rather NOT have to pay for this. I took it upon myself to get the serial number (7V{or Y, not sure}258097A) but now i dont know how i can use that to find the code without having to pay for it. I am going to try and call the dealer back tomorrow since by the time i got the serial they were gone, but if anyone can help me find this info before then, or even after, please let me know. Post a reply, or email me [email protected] either way is fine!
Thanks, Caspurr83 |

Re: Stereo Unlock Codes
I am just going to spread this post around, as lots of newbies come looking.
I tryed to enter the code 3 times, on my locked radio and it froze up (would not allow me to try entering any more codes). You can unfreeze the radio by leaving your keys in the ignition and turning the ignition to "on" or maybe its "acc" not sure which. Leave it there for about one Hour and the radio will go back to the "code" stage. I retrieved the code for my radio by getting inthe phone book and writing down all the Mitsubishi dealers phone #'s. I then went down the list until i found one that transferred me to the Parts dude. He was nice enough to just take my SN and give me the code. Alot of dealers will say "we need to look at the radio, so you will have to bring the car in" which basically means, they want to have someone pop off the bazel around your radio, undo 2 screws and write down your serial number, they will then put that number into their computer and charge you 10+ to get you the number. |

How long did you leave it in there for? Unless the 2000 Eclipse is different than the 2000 galant it should work. Leave it there for two hours, when i did this i forgot about it so it was longer than an hour that i did it. But the people that told me about it said it was an hour....
Oh, and im pretty sure it is ACC but i can check tomorrow and see if i remember anything... |

I tried again, this time leaving it about 2 hours and lo and behold, it worked! Thanks for the tips, saved me about 40 bucks (which is what the mitsubishi dealership said it would cost me a while back).
Thanks again |
