I have been thinking about getting a y-pipe. I really like the extra horsepower but how much louder does it make the car. Does it make the car sound like the 4 cylinder Hondas with aftermarket exhausts? Any info would be appreciated.

Nah man the Maxima will never sound like a Honda. The Y only makes your car louder if u got other mods really, otherwise it just rumbles and hisses a bit more.

A y-pipe, a high-flow cat, and a nice quiet muffler kicks butt. The Y-pipe is one of the best mods you can do to your max.

Go for it man!!! Great mod and lots of extra power. Adds very little noise without other mods. Worth every penny IMO

Y-pipe
Thanks for the info. The mods I have on my 96 Max is Stillen intake and exhaust. With these mods installed I like the way it sounds I guess I can handle a little bit more noise. But on the highway, a constant noise would drive me crazy. My question is does the Y-pipe make alot of noise in the low rpm range or is it the same through the whole RPM range. I am driving home to Baltimore from Montana this summer. That is 2300 miles!!! So I need to have some peace and quiet or I will go crazy on this 40 hour drive. Thanks

I only notice mine when I get on it. Just cruising around, all I hear is the exhaust. When I just had the Y-pipe and intake, it was barely noticable at all. Good luck.
