Unhappy Asian with pickups?

hi guys it's my first post on this very interesting forum.

I'm an asian, and I have a natural love of pick ups and large SUVs. Well right now i'm in college and i drive a ford escort which gets me around places but not in any fun or fashion ways well com'on what you expect with 88 hp, but it is a great vehicle and only have 61k miles on it. I'm planning to sell it or trade in or whatever this summer, so i have been thinking about a new vehicle.

well a great mom wants to give me 10g =), hehe yeah so with some extra money that i'd put in i can get a new vehicle (used ofcourse).
I asked my friend they are all talking to me about civic'rap', impreza, acura TL or whatever that are hot for a 'ricer'. well i dont think i'm really interested into car as much as i like trucks. only car japanese really makes is GT-R skyline in my opinion, which i'll never be able to get -_-
And they are talking to me about how i should just fit in as a normal asian kid drives an import vehicle.

But i really want is a silverado, (even thought avalanche is what i'd prefer but unable to afford even a used one), possibly a used one with z71 package made after year 2000 cus of the styling change.

so i'm still at a confused stage right now, what do you guys suggest?

if there's any asians with pick up on here, please comment what you feel about your truck and what your friends say about it. thanks guys

Don't worry about what your friends think, unless they plan on footing the bill!

Re: Asian with pickups?

go with a shortbed reg cab silverado, mod the shit out of it and beat them all on the road and off road. the new body style started in 99 so finding a good used 99 z71 will set you back about 8 or 9 thousand

Re: Asian with pickups?

Hey there, I'm asian and i've been driving a truck for most of my life. I would tell you to to get the truck. I have a 2000 Chevy Ext. Cab and it's nice. Rides a whole lot better than a civic. Hell you can even beat a civic with it. Forget what your friends telling you, get it, take them for a ride and show them the easiest way to trade the ricer in for a Silverado.

Re: Asian with pickups?

KOREAN PRIDe !!!!! i got a 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500 crew cab 4x4.. babes dig it, but it's a harsh ride. I use to have a 02 Toyota Tundra.. and I loved that truck. I know ppl are gonna hate me for saying this.. but get the Tundra =) trust me.. you'll thank me later. I wanted the biggest truck out there, and now I'm paying for the harsh ride/bag gas mileage. But hey.. it's American =)

Re: Asian with pickups?

Tundra rides very nice, and sits nice also, just like a car. No argument against the Tundra here. I just love my silverado. I knew what I wanted and I got it. That is the only way to be happy. I have friends that said I shouldn't get it, didn't need it, and call me a red neck. Since I have had the truck I haven't had to make a payment on it yet, it has made that money for me because of the ability to haul, and tote. I paid to do all kinds of stuff now. Just couldn't fit that stuff in my Supra. Of course I can always get the supra in the silerado.

Klas,

Don't fall into the stereotype of it all....one of my good friends is Asian and he has a 10 sec 1/4 mile single cab silverado. Thats without Nitrous. I don't ride with him anymore because he'll street race anything that challenges him. Now of course he's got over 40 grand in it...including a modified and blueprinted motor from Lingefelter <spellcheck>....It's all about what you want, who cares what some people think you should drive.......the whole deal with truck/car crazy people like us is to have fun and enjoy the sport....I would call it a hobby, but when you go over 10 grand, its no longer a hobby, its a sport.
