Re: ZX Swap?

$6500?????????????? Thats a rip off man trust me. Put it this way, most folks say they can swap in an RB for 4-6Gs, but does this include the wiring and all, I don't see how it will be cheaper and the VG30 is a local engine, hey even some dude is trying to sell one for a 1000 in this forum, a TT with the tranny and all, compare that to an RB. I say the VG30 cuz, in the long run imagine if you have to keep odering parts from japan, or specialty shops who have them, you know they are going to charge you out the ass for them JDM parts. The more power you make the faster things break. VG30.....take a trip to your local J-yard or Auto zone and wala.
By the way, I ran into a little problem, my SHO oil pan will not clear the K-member, this is pushing me to do one of three, mount the block higher (bad for handling), get a custon K-member($$$$$), get a custom oilpan ($$$). Damn this sucks, the oil pan was created to clear a rear wheel aplication the only problem is that the 240 K-member sits far at the back of the engine bay.

Hey you wrote "Damn, I thought living in GA would greatly inflate the prices of JDM swaps, guess I was wrong. A shop gave me a price quote of $2500 parts and labour 4 a SR20, and $4000 for an RB25, and $6000 for a 2JZ-GTE. I think thats pretty fair." in the sr20 swap question where is this shop? I'm going to drive down there when I can.

Well the VG30dett is from the 90-up 300zx wich you could probably get from a junkyard, thepartstrader.com, or ardperformance.com

since its a 3.0L and the 240sx is normally accustomed to a 2.4L or 2.6L RB26dett, it will be a tight squeeze but it is possible.
you will need new motor mounts new ignition and you will also have to replace the transmission with the larger 300zx trannie. You probably wont be able to "throw it in" yourself as you said unless of course you have an engine crane and stand and a hydraulic lift for the car. Its a hassle of a swap if you aren't even going to touch the engine. Hope I could be of some help.

Re: ZX Swap?

The shop, I will have to go back there and see then bring you back the info, It was north of atlanta and I stay on the south side, I was at an autozone fixing a girl friends 5series and accidentally ran into a guy who worked there with an S14, I spoke to him cuz of his ZX brake upgrade and he showed me where he worked. I forgot the name it was last year fall.
I know how to get there, but if you are going to make me go there which is around 50miles from where I live (one way), you better be serious. I'll just go visiting my friends and cuzs, then put the extra miles to go there. Again, You had better be sure if the price is right you will go there, otherwise I'll find your ass at Nopi and you gonna owe me for gas for the unnecessary trip. I live right across the speedway so you be sure I'll be there. Don't want to go there for no reason, not an erand boy. And what state do you live in anyway?????

What?

Aren't VGs iron block? It's successor, the VQ, is aluminum...and probably weighs the same or less than a KA.

Are there any width issues with this swap? I've seen a VG30ET swap on Freshalloy, but thought there were concerns about how much wider the twin cam motor was.

Then again, a guy in the Silvia forum did fit a VH45DE in his car.

My apologies, yes it is iron. Understand that it was late and I was addled out of my gourd on the various fumes produced in the garage. I had also been thinking about alum. heads all day and it was lodged in my brain like a log caught in a storm drain.

Re: ZX Swap?

when it comes to fitment, I've seent he VG30 (from the J30 I have) and it is narrower than my SHO block, I was playing with the spare engine, this is the older one that I will use to do the fitting, once it works then I'll go pull the one out of my SHO. Anyway, it almost fit so nicely but that freaking Kmemeber is about an inch off, I hate when the diff between something working and not working is so damn small, pisses me off. But anyways, I removed some shit I might be able to relocate like the upper radiator hose outlet and some other shit, and there might be a slight chance it will work tomorrow, so I will try again tomorrow, if it does, thank god, if it doesn't, it's gonna cost me out the ass just to modify it, may have to do as blight said and mount it higher.
But back to the point I was making, the V-blocks fit so well, I have so much room on the front, and there is still space on the side, it is like this car was made for a V6. Kinda don't know what to put on the front, there is around 3/4 or 1 foot of space. well, that will be decided at the end when the car is running for now, that freaking Kmember, DARN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...............

Sho, I don't want you to drive all the hell over there. If you can just ask a friend that would be great. To answer your question I live in MN. I really don't care about the drive for myself. Plus I always have my nova . Anyway, Ben B. Draggen i have two cars an escourt (that i hate with a passion) and a 72' Nova with a caddy 500 in it. The problem with that is that it gets terrable MPG even witha 2 edelbrock on it. I like a to ask about alot of cars because I am planning on selling both of these and getting two others. I can get 9gs out of the nova and more than likely 3gs out of the escourt so that's why. I had a 88' vette for a while and sold that so I have money left over from that too. In this case I just got a FREE 240sx se 1990 from a buddy who nothing of it. The block is cracked and some other stuff neads replaced to so...

In any case if that shop really is doing the 2jz swap for 6gs and that includes all the parts and labor, hell I would rather have that in a 240sx, than the VG.

If all this doesn't work out I'll probably end up with an LS1 in a 87' fiero. cam it and chip it. I should still get plenty of power and get decent MPG. That shouldn't cost me much. Plus it is such a sleeper.

Re: ZX Swap?

its seems everytime I log on this forum, theres someone new with big plans on a rare engine swap. At the end of the day it isnt the worth the money to try and swap some reclusize motor in your car to be original. For the 240 imo, just stick with the sr, ca and ka. If you have the money/know-how go with the rb series, i dont see the point with dropping in anything else. Rotaries belong in mazda's and 1and2jz's are meant for toyotas..

seriously, be realistic ...
