I recently installed an mp3 player in my 2000 Chevy Silverado. I connected the ground, two power wires and eight speaker wires. The stereo works fine but there are four extra wires from the factory stereo that I do not know what they are for. Does anyone know the color codes for the wires or what these four other wires are for? Thanks.

Re: 2000 Silverado stereo wire colors
kind of lost, is this the connector off the back of the oem radio.
is there 0ne connector or more is it 10 way black, gray, 9 way blk couple options, base, cd, onstar, amp, have vehicle speed volume adjust maybe if you can tell me the colors i can figure it out orange = b pos dark green = ign pos gray = dimmer control purple/white = fused interior park lamp black = ground purple = gain control signal dark green = e+c data dark green/ white = vss signal input any colors sound familuar

Re: 2000 Silverado stereo wire colors
If you look at your first reply for the base radio, I have those exact colors with the power wires, ground, and speaker wires all connected. The four wire colors that are not connected are:
dk green/white stripe gray dk green purple/white stripe In your second message, you list these colors but I am not familiar with the abbreviations you used. What do they mean. I would also like to know where to connect them in the new mp3 player. Does it hurt if they are not connected to anything? Thanks. |

Re: 2000 Silverado stereo wire colors
dk grn/white = is from vehicle speed sensor, oem radio is equiped with vehicle speed adjustable volume, the coller on back of volume knob with white circles around it.
gray = dimmer control is from the dimmer switch for lights and adjusts brightness of display along with dash lights when vehicle lights are on. drk grn = e & c special data is connected to data link connector and has blunt cut for cell phone, and is used for onstar. prpl/white = fused interior park lamp, is wires with dimmer switch for lights and connected to parking lamp circuit, if you ever noticed when the lights come on at night the radio display dimms a little. none of these wires needs to be connected and should only be used if the mp3 player is set up for them, just make sure the ends will not short out if you cut then off the connector. i hope this cleared things up for you good luck with new mp3 player, next you will probably want to install new speakers since the tweeters in the doors tend to fall off the panel then maybe an amp and some subs, dvd player so you can hook up a playstation.
