power seat belt removal?

how hard is it to remove the power seat belt track and motor in an s13? i'm assuming that the seat belt stays in the top, functional position when you do this, correct? also, how much weight does this save? i'm just curious and lookin for stuff to do til the new alternator gets here.

when the belts are at the top... look under the console where the cigarette lighter is.. there is a control box that controls the automatic seatbelt relay.. i think if u were to unplug that, they would be disabled and will sit at the top.

dont take my word for it though . and i know the box is the seat relay because it was a huge 40 reply thread in a nother 240 board , and someone ended up posting the pic of the service manual and shut eveyone up

yea either disconnect the wire, relay or fuse, or go and take off the interior panels and disconnect it manual. that would actually be the easier way, the panels come off fairly easily.

to take out the whole system is supposed to be pretty heavy. A lot of guys just take everything out and start completely over with a regular type lapbelt setup.

30 to 40 lb I’m listening!

My 89 seatbelt is well ….old to say the least and sometimes it does not retreat when I open the door! So I want to remove the belts and maybe get those belts that connect to the seats? (are they legal?)

Anyways let us know how easy is the job, and good luck!
