My 2004 Civic is a gas hog!
Ok lets face it, no matter how I drive this thing it's such a gas hog! Not only it lacks power but the engine loves to lug when I am in the higher gear. Well what I want to ask is, how do you guys drive your Civics? Do you guys drive them economically or do you enjoy punching the gas petal every chance you get? Haven't you notice most of the times when you punch the gas petal full blast to find out your getting dinky acceleration and at the same time empting out your gas tank.
For those who drive economically how fast do you accelerate? What RPMS you change gears at? Average speed? Best milage so far? Share me your secrets!

I first bought the Civic because of it's fuel economy ratings. But when I realized how slow the car accually was, I had to do anything to squeeze some extra performance out of the bugger even if it means using more gas under these high gas prices conditions. |

I love mine. I guess it could be more powerful, but I'm not racing anyone so I don't care. I get around 38/33 on mine. I usually shift around 3200 RPM, except if I"m driving in like a 35 or 40 I'll shift into 5th once I hit 40 just to save gas.

Re: My 2004 Civic is a gas hog!
i can go roughly around 300-350 miles on a full tank... and that full tank last me ususally from 1 1/2 weeks to 2 weeks... and i thought that was pretty good gas wise.. i drive like just any average joe and once in a while i will gun it cause either i am trying to hurry to work or just feel like it.. but never thought of it as a gas hog considering i drive an 01

Dude, I used to drive a 2004 Civic but now I just ride around on my hog. He's a little slow but I usually get about 10 miles per gallon (of slops). I hardly ever race him, unless some ricer pulls along side me on a cow with a fancy intake. Then I'll show him what a real racer is all about, yes sir I will.

when you guys are accelerating from 0, how hard do you step on the gas petal? How fast does the RPM climb before switching gears?

Re: My 2004 Civic is a gas hog!
the only time i ever open the throttle 100% is when im at high rpms or vtec is on.. otherwise its just a waste of fuel i see no difference in acceleration at low rpms from 30% throttle and 100% throttle
