drive shaft help needed

1986 BMW 325 drive shaft makes noise (like spinning un-even) between 1st gear and 2nd gear then stops and drives fine was told this was a bearing can this be changed easily or will it require a shop to do this work.

Re: drive shaft help needed

Re: drive shaft help needed

sounds like its comeing from the shaft to the rear wheel i can feel it hitting on the bottom of the console between the 2 front seats inside the car not hard or loud but can tell. The last owner said he had a shop replaced the top bearing but not the bottom bearing and thanks the bottom is now going out.

Re: drive shaft help needed

it's your driveshaft causing the noise and vibration and while the centersupport is probably broken, these break for a reason........the center and rear u-joints begin seizing up causing rapid speed chages in the shaft, quickly destroying the rubber carrier of the support. replacing just the support/center bearing may give you temporary relief but the u-joints are likely also bad. the best place to obtain a rebuilt here in the NW is 'Drivelines NW' in Portland, OR. this can be do-it yourself but it's not easy [exhaust must be lowered/removed] and the alignment of the replace centersupport fore/aft is important.
