IFS lift cost

does anyone know how much it would cost to have a 4" or 6" IFS lift installed on a 97 silverado? the lifts themsleves are 1200-1800 and im sure its not cheap to have someone put them on. if it cost too much i may just go with a body lift and put up with all the cab creaking.

depents on what brand and how they lift the front, some use all brackets,some use brackets and steering knuckles.

i installed a tuff country 6" on my 2000 silverado (see gallery) by myself in my driveway and took me about 16 hrs with air tools. mine used brackets to drop ft ifs and had to cut out bump stops and one bracket for ft diff.

so you can figure 10-20 hrs. depending on kit, times whatever you local labor rate is , it's $80 in ct.

if all i would need were air tools then i could do it myself in my friends garage. now a couple more questions, did you have to buy a longer drive shaft? and did you buy a new ring and pinion?

you can do it by hand but air definitly makes things easier depending on kit may need sawsall to cut out bump stops, and tie rod fork to seperate idler and pitman arm from centerlink
also make sure you can get the truck out after lift install, mine no longer fits (see gallery)

i didn't have to buy new shaft but not sure on 97 check lift info they usually tell you if you will need new shaft.

put on 35" tires and did ok with stock 3.73 gears just a little sluggish off line but pulled great after 2000 rpm.

latter replaced with 4.56 and think i went to far a lot better off line but less top end pull and wish i put in 4.10"s

might want to check magazines i remember seeing a pro comp deal for lift ,rims, and tires for a little over 2G , mine cost 3.2g for all that.
