power door locks, won't start

I have 94' Jetta with some strange problems. I'm not getting power to the ECM relay, (relay not clicking when key turned to on positon) I tried the ign. switch, several relays, traced wires can't find the problem. Anyone know what could be problem?
Also power door locks activate everytime a door, trunk is closed , Could this be part of the problem with ECM?

Re: power door locks, won't start

Will the starter crank the engine over? Does this have the anti-theft system?

Boschmann

Looking through the wire diagram, Could the Load Reduction Relay cause the failure of the EMI to be energy when the key is turned to start?

Re: power door locks, won't start

A problem with the anti-theft would prevent cranking. I'm assume you are calling the power supply relay the ECM relay (position #3, top row, third from left on main relay panel). Are you getting 12V+ on relay pin #4? This comes from ECM pin #54 and also powers pin #6 to the fuel pump relay. Does the fuel pump run when you turn the key to on? Ground to the power supply relay comes from ECM pin #9 to relay pin #5. If you have both hot & ground the relay should be clicking. The power supply relay then gives 12V+ to various engine sensors & units.

I have a friend with the anti theft locks as well. How do they work. He isn't sure how to arm and disarm them. Sorry! I know this doesn't help your problem but thought I would jump in for some knowledge.

Re: power door locks, won't start

The operation is a little complex, what specifically do you want to know? Anti theft & power door lock systems are two seperately functioning systems that are connected to each other for obvious reasons.

I just wanted a quick step by step of how to arm and disarm the antitheft with the key in the door lock. What sequence is required etc.. There is no keyless entry on this car.

Re: power door locks, won't start

The primary functions are basic. Turning the door lock to the lock position with the key should lock all doors & activate the anti-theft system. Turning the key in the door lock should unlock that door & de-activate the anti-theft system, tuning it to unlock again should unlock the other doors.
