1991 Metro ignition cylinder

Worked on a friends metro and she told me that it had a problem letting go of the ignition key after she parks the car. If she doesn't have the steering wheel perfectly straight, it will not release the key. I managed to get it out once and lubed the cyl. It has done fine for a while, but now it is slowly coming back. She also noted that before it started keeping the key, that it would not start the car when turned sometimes. The lights on the dash would come on, but would not engage the starter. The lube I used fixed this as well, but it too is showing back up. I'm not used to working on this style of ignition switch (the in-dash type), so I'm just kinda trying to get an idea of where to start. I'd hate to tear the assembly out if it does not need to be done. I think the ignition switch is just plain worn out, but who knows. Any help would be appreciated.

These lock cylinders can stick sometimes. If the wheel is straight, turn the key to the off position while pressing inwards on the key. It should move to the off position and release the key. If it won't, the spring might be worn or the internals could be rusted if the car has been in a humid enviornment. If replacement is necessary, it is a very simple job to anyone that can turn a wrench and a screwdriver.
