1986 Accord tranny problem
Lookin' to buy a 1986 Accord LX, 2.0L auto, and the car supposedly ran and drove fine but has since been parked for 3 months. Now the tranny won't shift out of first, from what I was told.
Now from my understanding these cars don't have filters in the auto tranny? Is it possible that in sitting for 3 months the already dirty ancient fluid has gummed up the valve body or the shaft? Anyone think that a simple fluid flush and refill will fix the problem?
I'm interested in the car because it's dirt cheap and actually pretty clean for it's age, and if I can get the thing running for cheap it's a good deal to me.
Just a little hypothetical situation though, say I was to the car and the fluid flush didn't work, what would it take to convert the car to a 5-speed? I'm more of a stick fan anyway, and they tend to get slightly better economy, but aside from having to pull the whole friggin motor out of the car what's involved?
Please excuse my ignorance, but most of my mechanical experience is in RWD vehicles and I've always tended to avoid these wrong wheel... I mean front wheel drive cars for that reason.
Thanks all.
