Exclamation No Durasteel on 2002's.

Thought this was interesting. From Steve Fisk on the Voy board.

"The load-bearing structures are made of extremely resistant Durasteel, ensuring optimal rigidity"

Steve's reply:

Wrong. "Durasteel" is the trademark name of Nissan's galvanized steel. It has a sandwich of zinc coating on it. And guess what? It USED to be on the X. It is NOT used on the 2002. Nissan quietly did away with it for 02. Costs a lot. "Load bearing structures"? WTF is he talking about? Durasteel was on the sheet metal. And this isn't a house we're talking about here. Not sure WHAT he's on about with that. Maybe I am missing something.

Poor luck for anyone with an 02 Xterra.

I hear they'll completely rust away within 6-8 weeks if ever exposed to snow, water or salt. Resale values for the 00's and 01 should start rising any time now.

if that would happen there would be so many class action lawsuits againt nissan it would break the bank. so never drive in snow and never use your four wheel drive to work or skiing? NOT! get a clue dude... :flamer:

Ok, I'll get a clue if you get a sense of humor.

I thought X was front wheel drive and the short lever next to transmission was the balance/fade joystick for the speakers.

One Possible Solution

I can suggest one possible solution to this problem. Ford of Canada and probably Ford in the US quietly offer a new after purchase protection package. They install a cathodic protection module, as well as Scotchguard and an additional clearcoat. For anyone that is not aware rusting is an electrochemical reaction whereby the iron in the steel converts to iron oxide. This cathodic protection module sets up a small electrical potential on the vehicle and comes with a sacrificial anode which oxidizes instead of your vehicle thereby virtually eliminating the possibility of rusting. Ford does not openly advertise this because of planned obsolescence so that you must always be buying a new vehicle but they do sell it and in my opinion it will be worth every penny of the $799 CAN that I was quoted. Anyone concerned may want to look into this. The package comes with a lifetime corrosion warranty as long as you take the vehicle in once per year so they can inspect the module and ensure that it is still working. The annual inspection is free.

Since you live in the land of the free, why not something a little more permanent, like .22 ?:aug2:

I hope the annual inspection is free if it costs $800 dollars. Put an electric curent on the body, isn't that the same as tapeing a 9V battery to the chasis?

The lifetime corrosion warranty is nice but we have horrible rust problems here in Salt Lake and i've never seen rust so bad it caused me to scrap a car.
Just wash and wax regulaurly.

Talking Reminds me of...

this kinda sounds like the ole' "magnet on the fuel line" theory. or how about the "twin fire super duty spark plugs" with the forked tongue, i mean forked electrode that gives you "power AND economy". and don't forget the "ultra super fuel additive with DX953" that gives you like new performance for 16.99 a bottle. ahh yes, the good ole' days of JC WHITNEY and WESTERN AUTO. are they still around, by the way? HEHE...
