I have a very clean 1994 Honda Accord EX with approximately 151,000 miles. I recently had the exhaust redone, tune up, a/c recharged, and I am trying to find a used speedometer at a salvage yard to replace the factory installed one. For whatever reason, the speedometer needle has done a 360 degree turn and now sits behind the pin in the cluster. I found a refurbished one for approximately 145.00, the only question now is, can I replace it myself vs. taking to a dealer..
Please advise.. tff |

Re: 1994 Honda Accord Ex (replacing The Speedometer?)
its not that difficult the trick is finding all of the screws so you don't break the panels. the trim around the radio has to come out and in order to get that out you have to move the back half of the center console. Dont take it out just unscrew it and slide it back a little. then the screws for the trim that goes around the gauge cluster/temp controls have to come out. Once thats out the cluster is held in by 4 screws and the cluster comes apart fairly easy. and the speedo is screwed to the board with either 2 or 4 screws i forget.

Re: 1994 Honda Accord Ex (replacing The Speedometer?)
the royal pain is getting the light that illuminates the the cluster out. It is a very tight fit. I installed some white faced guages and pulled the needles on my 96, and oops, that bleeped everything up. the speedo works, but I ahve no idea how accurate it is. The gas guage, tach and temp guage do not work. the good thing is the gas light still does, so I know when I am empty. I am looking for a speedo that has similar miles( 109-117,000 miles; wink wink; nudge, nudge) to replace it so carfax dont go crazy. It was a royal pain in the ass to get the cluster in and out, which is why I may bring it to a dealer to do.
