Aux. Radiator Fan

I have a 1990 Accord that is getting a little warm due to the Aux. Radiator fan not working. How would a person go about checking to see if the Aux. Radiator fan needs replacing, or if the Temp. switch is the problem.

Re: Aux. Radiator Fan

Honda uses a Mitsuba fan motor for the auxilary condensor fan and they are not the best. With the A/C switched on and the ignition on both fans should be operating, if only one is the odds are the fan is bad. With a 12 volt test light check to see if you have power on one side of the temp switch. With ignition power on and motor not running unlpug the radiator temp switch and touch your test light to the power side. Both fans should come on. If only one does then check to see if you are getting 12 volts at that fan. If you are, bad fan, if you not probably bad fan relay. Fans work in parallel but with seperate relays.

hey - I have a similar problem, although I can hear the motor trying to run but instead its just a buzzing noise. The fan doesn't move at all. usually this would turn on both while the engine was running and once I shut it off to cool the car. but the non-functioning buzzing noise was driving me nuts and I just removed the fuse. Any tips on if this unit is self-replaceable or do I need to take it to a shop? if so, any links for manuals or procedures? I know scottdude mentioned that they use a cheap mitsubo fan, can we replace it with something better? thanks!
