Re: who has a boosted dohc zc?

I dont understand the whole zc thing, why in the world would you want to put a motor that old in your car? The performance of them has surely dwindled to almost nothing. It seem's everyone that was at my school were getting crx's and hatch's with zc's and thinking they were all badass when I could just simply toy with them, walk the hell out of them in a race.

Why spend money on swapping them in when you could save alittle more and get a motor with more potential and the biggest thing, more reliability. I have a friend with a zc in his rex that he got when he first had it awhile back. since the timing belt has broke, he had to get it fully rebuilt and even now it's not that quick and it leaks oil and doesent start sometime's....

and after hearing countless other horror stories about zc's why would you guy's want to swap them in and boost them if they dont even run for long without boost?

You can come and knock me for knocking zc's but they are just not cutting it IMO. they might have been 4-5 year's ago. I would rather have a built a6 boosted than a zc. Maybe it's just me but I dont see anything good with the zc....

Foolish of me (im on my seccond zc right now) I agree with you. It is a good idea to get an engine thats not so old and sold in the us. One advantage of the zc is the fact that its dohc. Better tunability, especially with a turbo. I love my zc though, ive never lost to a relatively stock z6 or y8. I definitly do wish there was an easier way to get parts for this engine though.

Re: who has a boosted dohc zc?

Well i find the zc to be a great engine for the money. One of the reasons for them blowing is becouse they are only meant to be reved up to 7200, and alot of the ecu"s let you go to 7800.As for the D series breed they are the strongest built. The reason im using this engine and not a Bseries is idont need mounts, idont need to modify and i dont need to drop all kinds of money.Blow up a B series and youll see how much it hurts, and ya they blow up too!!!!! Not that im knocking them or anything. There is nothing like a little d series giving a B SERIES a BEATING!!!!!!!!!

Re: who has a boosted dohc zc?

The z6/y8 thing is that most people use rpm switches or a vtec controller to activate vtec and they dont get the potential out of the motor, not many people really convert to obd1 and get the proper ecu.

You don't have to tell me about D series. I used to have a z6 swap and I was all about the D ask any of the old member's here. I still like the single cam vtec motor's if done correctly over an D swap. But now it seem's like the zc is becoming like the b16 was but half the performance. I dont even like b16a's and I would recommend it over a ZC anyday.

A D series giving a B series a beating...well it happend's but alot of peopl need nitrous or more mod's to hang with B swapped car's. yes I know it's fun beating B series car's with D series but car for car, mod for mod. the B will always come out on top.

As far as blowing motor's every motor in the world will blow if you give it enough hell. I only "beat" on my motor on friday and maybe sat night too. the only problem I have had with that so far is breaking the rear motor mount and bald tire's.

Re: who has a boosted dohc zc?

Car for car and , dollar for dollar. Lets say i spend the same amount of money on a dohc zc that i was to spend on buying and installing a b16. all that extra money i could use on mods, perhaps making my car faster like a nitrous kit etc.

Re: who has a boosted dohc zc?

ok dollar for dollar you might win to an extent. but mod for mod the b series would always come out on top.

goto the strip with your zc hatch with i/h/e and race a stock b16 hatch with maybe just intake or exhuast and you wont have a chance if they can drive.

and if you want to go dollar for dollar i have spent maybe 2,250$ on my whole car with everything.

include the price of your car with your zc and all the mod's it would take to run low 14's which is not even the end of my time's I could pull high 13's out of it as is. I sprayed at the track once I have ton's of room for improvement.

so find me a zc powered car high 13's for 2,250$ including the price of the car..

Re: who has a boosted dohc zc?

Well $2250 is very rare and, unrealistic. Thats a great set up for that kind of money power to you. There is no way i am going to get smoked by a stock b16 after i have it boosted and tuned.Ive been in alot of boosted cars,I know what boost can do when used properly.
