Re: power pully...

i like jegs, no complaints with anything ive ordered from them, the pullies probly arent much different, they are designed off the same car with the same perameters, so they cant be that much different. so whichever is cheaper or from a more reputable person, i would go with that.

Re: power pully...

Just to through my 2 cents in here , Thats one mod I never messed with, pulley's only because I have heard all too many horror story's about people wishing they never did it do to aftermarket stereo equipment that now dims there lights and problems starting because they are no longer fully charging there battery to full amps and One time I was racing this guy in this hooked up 5.0 Mustang I barely beat him anyway we pull into a gas station after the race to fill up and his car won't start again because his pulley's arn't spinning the belt fast enough, Do to his pulley's and aftermarket ignition which isn't getting full juice , Well sucked to be him. All these possible problems for maybe 1 -2 tenths in the quarter. But to each there own

Re: power pully...

i put an underdrive on my 3.4 and it didnt hurt nothin. it didnt add any where near 18 hp but it was a noticable difference. i have a system in my car that is 700 watts and my lights dont dim or anything. the only thing i notice is a bigger dip in the voltage at night when its raining and the lights and wipers are on...

Re: power pully...

I'm sure there are case's where its perfectly fine to use them but like you even said there are times its putting extra stress on your charging system as rare as that is and have you ever raced someone where it was so close that the pulley's would have made a difference one way or the other

Underdrive pulleys will not hurt anything, but the battery will not charge quite as well due to the alternator turning at a slower rate. For this reason you buy a pulley set that comes with the alternator overdrive pulley, or you buy one seperate.

Now for the reality, do not expect a HP more of than a few HP! The Only seat of the pants Difference I noticed (I have the BBK crank pulley and the MBA alternator pulley) was that the engine revved easier when not under load. If you are looking to gain a couple tenths, this might get you a tenth at most!

Here is a great page for checking what some basic mods will do on the Dyno. You can see that with a Underdrive pulley he gained a peak of .7hp and 5.1ft-lbs of torque at the wheels.

IMO, only buy a pulley if you can pick it up used or for around $50 somewhere.

Re: power pully...

Ok, new to pullies, but if aftermarket pullies are smaller won't everything turn faster?

Re: power pully...

no everything else turns slower. its the same concept as putting larger tires on a truck. you end up with fewer rotations of the accesories for every rotation of the crank. think of the physics of it joseph ( i know youre knowledgable)...

Re: power pully...

Ok, I was under the impression you replaced the accessory pullies w/ smaller ones while the crank remained the same, therefore the accessories would have more rotations per one of the crank, so what do you actually replace, the crank pully, whatelse?
