1997 K1500 new 383 motor w/air ratio issues

I just built a stroker motor (383--fuel injected) for my 1997 K1500 Chevy Truck. It has the stock computer in it and is now running air ratio of 15:7. I am having a hard time finding anyone to reprogram the computer. Does anyone know of any place to send it and have it reprogrammed or if I should switch over to a carburetor?

Re: 1997 K1500 new 383 motor w/air ratio issues

dont know if you was told but the stock vortec intake system will not work on a 383 stroker, that is why the air ratio is off, it doesnt matter what the computer is modified to, you will never get the right ratio. the intake doesnt flow enough to handle the stroker motor. probably have to buy an aftermarket intake system or run a carburetor. might check on an LT1 intake off of a camaro or corvette also. i just recently put a new crate motor in my 96 and a stroker was an option until i was told that it will not work. hope this will help.

I read an article in Sport Truck Magazine about how they put a 383 stroker in a 96' Vortec SFI Suburban. There is a link on this website to the article. http://www.online-racer.com/chevy_383_stroker.htm It's in about the middle of the page. What engine did you have before 305 or 350? How do your cam specs compare to the cam specs on that site? Are you getting a check engine light? What codes? This place will tune your PCM for $395. http://westers_garage.eidnet.org/scprice.htm Let us know the results if you decide to do it. Hope that helps.

there is a place in houston called motorsport technologies and they have a web site. they program gm computers to what ever you want. but if you have the zz4 383 then you have to run a carburetor in a vortec truck. as long as it is not a zz4 or zz3 you can run the vortec intake system. check out there website for their information hope this can help
